Translated Into a Romantic Night

The
Hispanic Heritage Society celebrated its 15th
Anniversary last Saturday with Bolero, a musical
review that consisted of twenty-four ballads.
The ballads came across like two
dozen roses and romance was in the air as the Voces de
San Antonio serenaded those in attendance with one
romantic song after another.
Emanuel Zapata shone on María
Grever’s classic “Jurame,” one of the most difficult
tunes for a vocalist, but his beautiful operatic voice
filled with great emotion stole the show.
Mexican actress and recording
artist Rosalinda Risso and San Antonio’s own Nataly
Peña, now living in Los Angeles, brought a touch of
glamour, sensuality, showmanship and eye-candy to the
program.
To balance it out on the male
side, women swooned over Héctor Hernández and César De
Cruz, two hunks that interpreted two love songs each.
María Isabel was obviously a
crowd favorite and she had her own cheer leading squad
of fans gathered on one section of the San Pedro
Playhouse that yelled out a few porras.
Trio Juventud were excellent
with “Eddy Eddy,” a 1960s rock and roll number.
Dancers Rubén and Verónica wowed the audience with
some slick dance steps and sexy moves; and we can’t
leave out the Voces Quartet who did a nice job of
backing up the lead vocalists.
Congratulations to Cristina
Ortega, musical design and artistic director; plus
Jorge Infante, who did all the music arrangements; for
producing an exciting evening of canciones de amor.
