WAR…. Blast from the Past!!

WAR…. Blast from the Past!!

From Spill the wine to Cisco Kid. The classic band did not disappoint anyone in the audience.  All the great songs were played. There was dancing and  folks singing along with enthusiasm and joy.

Music; it brings you back to a special time or moments of yester year. (It keeps me young)

Sipping on a cold one or munching on a snack. from the young and the young at heart it was an evening made just right. The venue was at the Wonderland of the Americas Mall. It was part of the Salute to America Music Celebrations. There will be free concerts for the upcoming month. Need more information?

Walking among the fans I must say, Texan folks are the best! I would hear

“Have a seat, do you need some water?” Time after time I find kindness in abundances. It’s not limited to only music venues, but all over here in Texas. When you have gathering of family and friends’ it only gets better.

It’s great to be here in San Antonio and living in this great state of Texas !

Ruben V…

Story by joseph Martinez

Latin-Soul, Jazzy Blues, Rock. This is a good description of what you get when you listen to Ruben Vela of the band “RUBEN V”.   “Built On Love”, An Original song he wrote about friends lost stuck a nerve with me. Words do not make the pain go away but rather it smooth’s out the ruff edges.  Ruben played many songs that evening. Angel of Mercy, a great original song , it started with a heavy bass drum line, it’s a snappy tune.  Cool…

A Favorite Song of mine, “Golden Slumber” Was played flawlessly in his unique way.

The band did not play any “Santana” songs but, they had the influence  and some of the funkiness of that famous band. When asked about the music his band played. Ruben said” It’s a fusion of many different styles, “I work hard to keep it fresh”

Ruben played a Very long set  lasting well over an hour at the cove;

A  San Antonio favorite family friendly nightspot.

I ask about “How far do you want to take the playing music?”

Ruben: Simple “I don’t want it to end”.

I truly believe that if Ruben get a cuts . He would bleed musical notes.

It was very apparent that family is very important to him. Cale (Ruben’s spouse and booking manager )  was enjoying the evening with her son  Justice”  I did not see his other child Liberty but, I know Ruben keeps a close reminder  of his kids with him . The names Justice and Liberty on his arms.

Music runs deep in his family. His Father led a conjunto group in the Valley and that’s where Ruben received the music bug. Kudo’s goe out to his DAD for giving San Antonio a Wonderful musician.

Of Course, one person does not make a band.

All of the members played very well. In A word they were “Tight”

Each member had a solo to showcase their individual talents.

The audience appreciated it as well as I .
